Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the White House.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Information on the Devastating Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have been held in their memory.
Presidential Call
The president stated he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president informed reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Support
Community members assembled over the weekend at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.
Honoring Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that educators desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the principal of her previous school, stated to the media. “She was caring, considerate and always eager to assist people.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Government Adjustments
Officials have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The incident prompted the administration to pause refugee claims and halt granting visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a native of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey stated on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on Fox News Sunday that she also intended to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a military police officer with honor, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had fortitude,” the governor addressed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
