The Showrunner Reveals He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the hit sci-fi show wrapping up—and the next chapter already in development—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Fan Response

Anyone might to get swayed by the rampant praise and fan theories regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to ignore the noise.

“It feels like force fed something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's by design. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan See the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the writers are not listening by audience theories, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… in a way.

“There are some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to discard a solid concept for a better idea. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
