The child of ex- South African Head of State Jacob Zuma has denied all charges to terrorism-related accusations at the start of her court case in the port city of Durban.

Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, 43 years old, is being prosecuted over statements she published on social media four years ago during violent demonstrations in South Africa that came after the arrest of her parent.

A period of disorder in multiple regions of the country in July 2021, including theft and fire-setting, caused at least three hundred dead and led to damage worth an projected $2.8 billion (£2.2 billion).

She has been charged of inciting this violence and faces charges of provocation to commit terror-related activities and public violence.

History of the Legal Matter

The unrest were concentrated in the provinces of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal and followed the previous president's detention for defying a court order to testify at an inquiry into accusations of corruption while he was serving as president.

Ms Zuma-Sambudla has repeatedly denied the allegations against her, with her legal representative earlier describing the prosecution's evidence as insufficient.

She has also consistently said the allegations against her were an bid to settle political scores with her dad after he established his own political organization and ran against the ruling party.

Endorsement and Court Representation

This was reinforced by the foundation, which said the case was an "power abuse" and a "systematic campaign" of "political and familial persecution" against the ex-leader and his relatives.

A small number of supporters from her group, her party, turned up outside the judicial building, while her father and other group representatives were present at the proceedings inside.

The defendant's representatives has stated that the evidence presented by the state is inadequate and lacks concrete evidence for a conviction.
